Cinco de Mayo is one of Mexico’s most popular celebrations and one that is widely celebrated in the US. Cinco de Mayo is a holiday that celebrates the date of the Mexican army’s May 5, 1862 victory over France at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco- Mexican War. With people around Mexico, the US and the world staying home in light of the global pandemic and unable to go out and celebrate, we’ve decided to help you plan your very own Cinco de Mayo celebration at home! Here are a few ways you can celebrate at home: 1. Decorate your house. A Cinco de Mayo theme is so easy to create at home to help you get in the fiesta spirit! Make hangable banners out of construction paper, create your own maracas using bottles, paper towel rolls or any other container you have at home. Fill them with beans, rice, or beads and decorate with construction paper, colorful markers or any other craft supplies you may have at home. Feeling extra creative? You can make your own piñata (there are tons of easy step by step guides available online) and fill it with candy or even mini liquor bottles! 2. Have a Mexican feast. Create a make your own taco bar dinner set up with all the fixings or support a local restaurant and order curbside to go! Add some color to your table with bright plates, napkins and utensils and you have yourself a fiesta! 3. Create some Mexican drink staples. Did someone say Margaritas? Check out one of our past blogs that is filled with drink recipes that are perfect for your Cinco de Mayo celebration. Just click here! 4. Create a Fiesta playlist. Add some music that gets everyone groovin’ and don’t forget to add these classics: • “Cinco de Mayo” _ Pitbull • “La Bamba” -Richie Valens • “Bidi Bidi Bom Bom”- Selena • “Livin’ La Vida Loca” -Ricky Martin • “Oye Como Va”- Santana • “Mambo No. 5” – Lou Bega • “Macarena” – Los del Rio • “Senorita” – Justin Timberlake • “Havana” – Camila Cabello • “Maria, Maria” – Santana • “Conga” – Gloria Estefan 5.
