There are a great deal to choose from and you can actually find beds for as little as $150 MXN (less than $10 USD) per night! We’re NOT saying this is what we would recommend booking for your stay if you are looking for an amazing Cancun vacation, we’re just letting you know what is available! These lower end hostels are found in downtown Cancun (where most locals live) and would require a 10-minute bus ride to get to most beaches, tourist attractions, and clubs. Now, there are some hostels in the hotel zone of Cancun (where most tourists want to be located) that will be a bit more expensive, but still VERY budget friendly; $50-80 USD is average for a private room that sleeps two in a hostel. Cancun hostels typically offer free WiFi and breakfast as part of their package. Budget hotel prices - There are a great deal of Cancun hotels to choose from. In the list, you will find quite a few budget hotels with prices starting around $75 USD per night for a room that sleeps two. Airbnb has also become very popular in Cancun. Prices can range anywhere from $25 USD a night for a shared room, all the way up to $5,000 USD for a week in a beautiful home of your own! A top from experience: Keep an eye on the location when you are renting Airbnb properties to ensure that you will not be too far away from the beautiful beaches and hotel zone during your stay! High-end resorts - Cancun all inclusive resorts are really the way to go if you are looking for a breathtaking tropical paradise, and have the budget to spend. Big Cancun resorts are mostly in amazing locations with very easy accessibility to entertainment and clubs in the area. A typical all inclusive resort ranges from $150-500 USD per night, depending on your preference in star-rating and reputation! Average cost of food in Cancun - Local Mexican food is extremely affordable (and delicious). You’ll find a lot of tacos (made with traditional soft-shell corn tortillas), rice, refried beans, fruits, veggies, and salsa verde in the local Mexican cuisine. If you choose to stick to this type of food, there are tons of small street vendors all over the city (both in tourist areas and in local downtown areas as well). You can expect to spend around $25-30 USD per day or less on this type of food. A combo meal at McDonald’s costs around $6 USD, but we suggest that you expand your tastes a bit while traveling in Mexico and go for a local taco shop where each taco costs approximately $1.50-2.00 USD. If you are looking to go to a higher end sit-down restaurant, you should plan to spend around $15-20 USD per person. If you want to go to one of the most luxurious restaurants in the area (i.e. Fred’s House, Harry’s, Puerto Madero, etc.), you can easily spend much more. Transportation - Cancun transportation is fairly inexpensive, and it is very easy to get around. There is a tourist bus that picks up travelers outside of their hotels and brings them to Cancun clubs, marinas, and restaurants. It only costs $1.00 per person so it’s how most people get around! The bus swings by every 2-5 minutes, so if you miss one, just wait a couple minutes and the next one will be passing by! Taxis aren’t metered, so if you choose to take a taxi, make sure you agree on a rate with your driver before getting inside! In downtown Cancun (centro), $2.00-3.00 USD per ride is a good guideline to follow. In the hotel zone, depending on where you are going, plan on spending at least $8-12 USD per ride. Cancun Clubs / Partying - Cover charges at Cancun nightclubs can get pretty expensive if you purchase at the door. During high season, extra charges upon arrival are expected. Cancun club lines are also very obnoxious during big events, and they can take hours before stepping foot inside.
